FIFA 14 Will Not Be Released to Wii U

Last month, EA introduced FIFA 14 to the world to PS3, XBox 360 and PC:
“FIFA 14 is in development at EA Canada and will be available in stores world-wide this fall. Additional platforms will be revealed in the months ahead”.

A rumour started saying that Wii U was not in the “additional platforms”. Now, the speculation is over.

EA has confirmed to Eurogamer that FIFA 14 will not release on Wii U.
In a statement, EA Sports said it took the decision after poor sales of the Wii U version of FIFA 13:
“Six months ago FIFA 13 was a launch title on Wii U. (…) Although the game featured FIFA’s award-winning HD gameplay and innovative new ways to play, the commercial results were disappointing. We have decided not to develop FIFA 14 on Wii U”.

EA published several games for Wii U after its launch last November, including FIFA 13 and Madden NFL 13. Now, they have changed their plans. FIFA 14 will be not the only EA Sports title to avoid the system, as EA confirmed earlier this month that the Madden series will not see a release in 2013 on Wii U either. The publisher has “no games in development for the Wii U currently”.

In relation to the lack of the new Madden for Wii U, EA insisted that “we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future”.

EA produced just four games for the Wii U before calling it quits – Madden 13, FIFA 13, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Mass Effect 3. Activision has also gone shy on the Wii U, skipping over it for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Nintendo itself has expressed disappointment in the system’s hardware and software sales.

  1. WOW, EA must have some incompetent fools working for them. The reason it didn’t sell was because EA thought it was a good idea to launch a game with the old engine and less gameplay possibilities than on the XBOX and PS3. Do they think the costumers are idiots and didn’t know about this?
